If I were with you, I’d just hold you. I’d let you cry, or whisper your fears in the light of a torch under the sheets. I’d protect you from the things that hurt your heart. I’d guide you through the worst hours, rescue you from the days that you decide you’re almost ready to give up. I’d make you laugh again, proper laughter: no fake smiles. I’d do anything, but I’m not there with you, and it breaks my heart. So I must ask you: please take care of yourself, for me, as I can’t be there to do it.
